BROADVIEW
– In response to the
governor’s cuts in the state budget
targeting many local projects and
community organizations, state Rep.
Karen Yarbrough (D-Maywood) issued
the following statement after a
well-attending public hearing to
highlight the worthiness of the
projects cut.
“As we
have heard tonight, these
organizations are not ‘pork,’ as the
governor has characterized them.
They provide real services to make
our communities better places to
live and make a difference in the
lives of the less fortunate. To
take money away from local groups to
create a backdoor health care
bureaucracy that was roundly
rejected by the legislature is an
insult to the people of my
district. The strange part is that
in order to create this new health
care program, the governor had to
take funding away from community
health care programs.”
