YARBROUGH OBTAINS
FUNDING TO START CEASEFIRE PROGRAM IN BELLWOOD
BELLWOOD, IL – Pictured
above, State Rep. Karen Yarbrough presents $250,000 state
grant for the establishment of a Bellwood CeaseFire chapter
at the village board meeting on Wednesday, June 21, 2006.
With the rep are: Bellwood Mayor Frank Pasquale;
Gary Slutkin, CeaseFire founder and director;
Lakeisha Purchase, Rep. Yarbrough's student aide; and
Janice Mitchell-Bolling, Maywood and Bellwood CeaseFire
Manager. CeaseFire, an anti-violence initiative that has
reduced murders and shootings by 40%, will start in Bellwood
in July. Maywood's program, which also received $250,000
thanks to Rep. Yarbrough, is in its second year.
