Senior
Citizen's Homestead Exemption
Provides tax
relief for seniors age 65 and older by
reducing the taxable value of their homes by
$3,000, on top of the current $5,000
Homestead Exemption. Seniors receiving
the Senior Citizen Homestead Exemption
automatically qualify for the Homestead
Exemption and do not have to apply for it
separately.
Senior
Citizen Assessment Freeze
Freezes the
taxable value of a home for seniors age 65
and older with an annual household income
less than $45,000.
Senior
Citizen Tax Deferral
Allows seniors
age 65 and older with an annual income under
$40,000 to defer all or a portion of their
real estate taxes and special assessments on
their residence. The loan carries a
low interest rate and is repaid at the time
the property is sold.
Circuit Breaker Property Tax Assistance
Provides
grants to seniors age 65 and older who have
paid property tax on their home, even if
they rent or live in a nursing home.
Those with household incomes under $21,218
for individuals or $28,480 for couples are
eligible.
