DEMOCRATIC SWEEP IN PROVISO TOWNSHIP
Committeeman Yarbrough
Praises Democratic Organization for
General Election Victories
Proviso Township voters in the November
General Election supported the Democratic
Party candidates in a landslide victory.
Governor Rod Blagojevich won 66% of the
Proviso vote in his re-election bid.
Proviso voters backed Democratic
constitutional officers by overwhelming
margins-- Attorney General Lisa Madigan
(86%); Comptroller Dan Hynes (80%);
Secretary of State Jesse White(79%) and
State Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias (69%).
Voters supported incumbent Congressman Danny
K. Davis with 87% of the vote.
Todd Stroger, the victorious Democratic
candidate for Cook County Board President,
won 57% of the Proviso vote; overall, in
suburban Cook, Stroger only tallied 39% of
the vote. Bill Gomolinski, Democratic
candidate for 16th District Cook
County Commissioner who lost to incumbent
Tony Peraica, won half the votes in Proviso
Township.
Committeeman Yarbrough took particular pride
in the stunning victory of Dr. Charles
Flowers of Maywood, who beat incumbent
Robert Ingraffia for regional superintendent
of schools. Flowers, recruited by Yarbrough
and slated by the Cook County Suburban
Committeemen, won with 61.7% of the vote.
Flowers, a member of the Proviso Township
Democratic Organization, won 72% in
Proviso. We now have a committed
professional educator from our community who
will fight to improve schools throughout the
suburbs, Yarbrough said.
Democratic Committeeman Karen Yarbrough, in
her first official campaign as top Democrat
in Proviso Township, was overwhelmed by the
vote in Proviso. I want to thank all of
the volunteers who worked every weekend to
let people know how important the November 7
election was, she stated. On election
day, our sample ballot was distributed
throughout Proviso from Northlake to Maywood
and from Westchester to Brookfield. Our
Democratic victories resulted from intensive
voter outreach, she declared.
Yarbrough also thanked voters in the 7th
Representative District for supporting her
as state representative. Yarbrough,
uncontested in the general election,
received 24,296 votes. She will be serving
her fourth term.
